THE CURRENT NEED
Health care providers are unable to communicate with patients, and there are no qualified & trained interpreters to bridge that gap. This can result in severe consequences such as, but not limited to; misdiagnosis, excessive use and or misuse of resources, inability to obtain consent, hospital readmissions, and in severe cases, death.

MEDICAL INTERPRETING
In-person interpreting of health care services/procedures from Indigenous language to English
CULTURAL AWARENESS TRAINING
The aim of the cultural awareness discussion is to review differences that providers might encounter when providing care to their patients. Overview of traditions and beliefs that come with indigenous populations.
DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES
Herencia Indigena works to create educational material for patients in their preferred language.
TRAINING TO QUALIFY TRILINGUAL MIXTECO INTERPRETERS
10 week competitive and rigorous program where participants are challenged and trained in multiple departments they may service within the hospital. Those who are accepted are required to attend lectures, complete assignments, and pass exams covering topics that include but are not limited to; federal regulations, hospital policies, interpreting styles, and standard & ethics.
